QURANIC REFERENCE

Honey is mentioned at only  twice in the Quran but the context is vital, as it is mentioned as a drink of paradise. It’s quality is mystical ,this sacred viscous fluid flows from the bodies of  the formidable black and yellow bees. The medicinal property of honey is amazing  and as time passes more and more scientific research is illuminating  that healing powers of honey. though this information has been known by enlightened people for thousands of years including  Prophet Muhammad, salah la alaihi  wa salem.

In the Quran there is even a whole chapter called The Bees.

In Surah 47, Muĥammad (Muhammad) ayat/ verse 15

“ The description of Paradise which the Muttaqûn (pious — see V.2:2) have been promised is that in it are rivers of water the taste and smell of which are not changed; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine delicious to those who drink; and rivers of clarified honey (clear and pure) therein for them is every kind of fruit; and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are these) like those who shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels? “

ISLAMIC MEDICINE

Honey  is hot and moist.

Ibn Qayyim al  Jawzziyah mentions that Az-Zuhri(ra), a scholar within the Umayyad caliphate, he said of honey, that’s its good for the memory. He goes on to mention that clear, light colored, sweet honey is best, honey that is collected from the trees and mountain is superior to that taken from man-made bee hives.

It removes the impurities from the veins, the intestines and else where. 

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

I also believe that local honey is best, because Allah has put the remedy in the flowers of your area for dis-eases you will get in your area like hayfever. Mountain honey or jungle honey is expensive and special and can be used for more stubborn illnesses.

There are all sorts of honey and what the bees are fed on is important, its work buying a decent honey.I am an advocate of local honey, where ever you live the local honey is best. Allah has put in the flowers of that area the remedies you need for illness you may incur while living in that area. For example you may live in  an area where there is a lot of red clover, the bees in tat area will put small amounts of the pollen into the honey, the body transforms this as well as the immune system boosting qualities of the honey and you will have some resistance against the allergens. It will alleviate your allergies not cure them. it’s a form of natural homeopathy. 

  1. Honey is nature’s energy booster  

 honey is a great source of natural carbohydrates which are known for  effectiveness  in instantly boosting performance, endurance and muscle fatigue/tiredness. Even a spoon of honey will keep you going that extra mile insha’Allah. It contains glucose and fructose which are naturally occurring sugars in fruit, vegetable, grains and honey, the glucose is absorbed quickly to give a natural high of energy  while the fructose is slow release to give a more sustained energy .

Honey is an  antioxidant .its anti-bacterial properties can help improve digestive system and help you stay healthy and fight disease because much of the body’s immune system  is connected to good  stomach health.

3.Honey is a natural remedy for many ailments . 

Honey properties are that it is hot and moist. It creates heat in the body Honey is able to detox  impurities from the veins, the intestines, the stomach and elsewhere. It dissolves moisture when it is eaten and removes excess phlegm in old people and particular illness that result from cold;cold food, cold weather or cold virus. 

Mix 2 teaspoons of honey with 2 teaspoons  of ginger juice, then mixed with warm water. The concoction helps to expel  mucus, alleviating symptoms o f  the common cold, coughs and sore throat.

1 teaspoon of honey mixed with one teaspoon of turmeric/haldi taken 3 times a day will alleviate a dry tickle cough.

Natural Medicine

One of honey’s main benefits is that it is an antibacterial agent, it has antibiotic properties especially when mixed with tumeric, black pepper or hing(asatefedia).

Honey contains great benefits and removed impurities from the veins, the intestines and elsewhere. It creates heat and dissolves moisture when it is eaten and removes excess phlegm in old people and those of cold moist temperament, this issue of temperament is something that we in the west know very little about ,unless we are privy to Arabic books on this subject or have study Ayurvedic medicine.

Honey is a preservative for meats, fruits and ointments. It was also used preserve dead bodies and its known as ” the trustworthy preserver” mashallah!

Nits and lice…it kills them when the skin or hair is anointed with honey…that’s interesting for mums with tiny ones at school or play group. It can lengthen enhance and soften hair.

Honey has many many health benefits, we would do well to prioritize it on our shopping list and give thanks to Allah, making duaa for the bees and the beekeepers that Allah guides blesses and protects them now and forever , ameen
