Some time you have fruit that really needs using up, I have a couple of oranges that are getting a little dry, hmmm what to do?
There are many wonderful ways of using oranges but today we are going to make spicy fruit salad.
This is really a recipe for a salad dressing for fruit salad, or you could use it on fish or meat.
I do need to say that you need to be accustomed to these spices because this salad is different, what you could do to start with is…use the dressing for 2-3 persons with a little bit more honey and lemon to stretch the spices out till you get used to it.
The health benefits are amazing.
At this point I realise that I need to let you know that I’m flexitarian, meaning I eat loads of plant based founds and am mindful of eating fish and meat in small quantities, have veggie only days.
You can use whatever fruits you like and adjust the spices around to suit your taste.
RECIPE FRUIT SALAD DRESSING PER PERSON
1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
½ teaspoon powdered turmeric, you could use fresh
1/8 teaspoon powdered black pepper
½ teaspoon ginger powder, you could use fresh
10-15ml/1/1-3 teaspoon honey ( QURANIC FOOD)
Juice of 1 lemon/lime
FOR THE SALAD
We used per person
1 small nectarine
Small handful blue berries
Wash the fruit and let it drain, then,
Place all spices into serving bowl like a cereal or soup size
Add the honey
Add the lemon juice and mix
Make this first before you cut fruits, there is normally a method in my madness.
Fruits like apple go brown very quickly once cut so mixing this dressing on them keeps their light colour.
Start by chopping apples, bananas, pears if that is your choice, they go brown quicker, add to dressing,
Then add berries
You can put this salad in the refrigerator and have chilled but honestly it’s too juicy you will want to eat t straight away
