SURAH/CHAPTER 95: AYAH/VERSE 1, Surah At-Tīn (The Fig) – سورة التي
“By the fig, and the olive,” [95:1]
Waa teeni waa zaytooni (transliteration)
Last night I learnt from my Arabic teacher Dr. Imran Hamza Alawiye, the author of the gateway to Arabic books, when Allah says “wa” at the beginning of a sentence, it is an oath; He is swearing an oath and causing emphasis on the things he swears by. In this case are the fig and the olive.
ISLAMIC MEDICINE- COUGH
The fig is only mentioned once in the Quran in the context of Allah swearing “By the Fig” at the beginning of Surah At-Tin. The great classical Islamic scholar of medicine, also known as ‘The Doctor of the Heart’, Ibn Jawziyyah (ra) says that this “swearing” is because of the great significance, benefits and uses of figs. The temperament of the fresh fig is hot and moist; it is hot and dry in the second instance. Ibn Al Qayyim also states that eating too many figs can cause lice.
In his books Medicine of The Prophet (salah lahu alaihi wa salem) he tells us that white figs are good for combating coughs.
Last winter I had a terrible cough it was so bad that for almost 24 hours I was coughing so much that my diaphragm was hurting. I suddenly remembered that white skinned dry dates are good for coughs. I ate three with a cup of chai masala tea and within 1 hour the cough has subsided 90%.
A dry cough caused by salty phlegm can be calmed by eating figs. I bear witness to having tried this; once I had a cough that was so prolonged my diaphragm hurt from coughing. Within an hour of eating white dry figs the cough was almost gone, Alhamdulilah.
FIG AND OLIVE THE SACRED SUPERFOODS HIGH IN METHIONINE
I recently watched a video where an Islamic naturopath spoke about an amino acid we need called Methionine.
Methionine is an amino acid. Amino acids make proteins in our body. You can find Methionine in meat, fish, and dairy products.
Methionine can be taken by mouth to treat liver disorders and viral infections along with many other uses but it can be found in natural source FIGS AND OLIVES.
FIG AND OLIVE SACRED RATIO
The following is an extract from The Saudi Gazette that shares with us the sacred ration of the fig and the olive.
“Scientists drawn to the study of the health benefits of figs and olives found that the use of figs alone or of olives alone did not give the expected benefit to human health. Japanese scientists studies found out that the best way to maximize health benefits was to eat these heavenly foods in a ratio of: 1 fig to 7 olives.
And miraculously, in the Holy Qur’an figs have been mentioned once and olives seven times, out of which six explicit times and once implicitly. Therefore, they should both be included in an individual’s daily diet intake. Their health benefits and healing properties have been revered for centuries by traditional healers.”
