I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people “liked” a post on Facebook that I wrote called working on Anti-histamine Ramadhan Diet… and even one of my FB friends, Leanne said she really needs it.
I am too tired to go into histamine again because my histamine experience has been going on for so many years since I was small with hay fever, eczema, psoriasis, hives, etc.
Now as a grannie going through the Change, the menopause, it’s like breast feeding but without the baby. Waking up every 1.5 – 2 hours because of hot flushes, through the covers off then sleeping then getting cold, then waking up again,.
These hot flushes are exacerbating heat rash, so I have hives. Hives on my forearms, hives on my neck, throat, my back and even on my lips and around my nostrils.
I am not alone in making the connection between menopause and histamines, hormones and histamine. I stumbled on the gorgeous Yasmina Ykelenstam, maashallah; please make yourself familiar with her blog.
I was inspired by a daily smoothie of hers.
My health is a serious learning curve for me as a nutritionist; I am my own case study.
I have just found out by the grace of Allah guidance that many of the healthy foods I thought were good for me like cashew nuts, actually promote histamine.
High histamine level foods:
- Pickled or canned foods – sauerkrauts
- Matured cheeses
- Smoked meat products – salami, ham, sausages….
- Beans and pulses – chickpeas, soy beans, peanuts
- Nuts – walnuts, cashew nuts
- Chocolates and other cocoa based products
- Ready meals
- Salty snacks, sweets with preservatives and artificial colorings
It has got to the point where I really need to cleanse my body and start all over again

Hmmm I have apple, parsley broccoli, ginger but none of the rest, but I do have cucumber which has to anti-histamine and black seeds.
You come to a point in your life where even the undesirable needs to be consumed.
I forgot to put the ginger in and needed to put more apples, so here’s the Karimah’s Cuisina version
10 springs of parsley
Broccoli about handful
20ml of black seeds
Chop and put all ingredients blender and add2 cups of water, makes about 2 pints.
It actually taste very green butt the extra apples made it nice and I think next ,time, inshaa’allah in the morning. I must remember to add ginger.
