HOW MANY FRUITS AND VEGETABLES A DAY IN RAMADHAN AND OTHER DAYS

WHAT ALLAH SAYS IN ISLAM SAYS

As salam alaikum brothers and sisters,
I would love to start off with Allah’s words, this ayat in the Quran about fruits
It’s from chapter/surah 16- the bees and verse/ayat 11
“He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought?” [16:11]
It’s from chapter/surah 36- surah ya-seen and verse/ayat 57
“And for them there is fruit, and for them there is what they ask for.”

It’s from chapter/surah 4- surah an-nisaa/ the women and verse/ayat 55
“They will call therein for every kind of fruit in peace and security.”
“fruit” is mention at least 11 times by Allah in the Quran and “fruits” as a collective group,at least three times.Individually fruits are mentioned by name, such as; dates, fig, grapes and pomegranate.
Allah speaks of fruits often in the context of paradise and we need to see that this, places great emphasis on their importance.
So let’s get back to how many portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
I have my own idea which is 8-10 portions but I googled it to see what other people are saying.

Alhamdulilah for the internet and conscious individuals like myself and others, that have a passion for well being, not just for ourselves but for all of humanity….it makes it easier to research and compare opinions.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES CONTAIN ANTI OXIDANTS, FIBRE, and NATURAL SUGAR, VITAMINS AND MINERALS AND MORE…
Fruits and vegetables  are mostly alkaline forming foods that combat the damage that acid forming foods cause; inflammation and free radical damage and oxidative stress. The more fruits and vegetables you eat the better you feel. The high vitamin and mineral content creates almost instant feelings of better health and well being.

REGULAR TOILET, CLEARER SKIN AND CLEAR THINKING , MORE ENERGY

Fruits and vegetables are high fibre foods that help elimination of waste material from your body, they combat constipation… for this reason your skin is clearer, your think better, you worship and do your prayer better and are more active to do good deeds.

The fibre in the fruits and vegetables is also good for the heart because tiny piece of fibre clear plaque from the blood arteries all around the body.
Obviously we need animal protein and vegetable protein as well and fats.
THE INFORMATION IS CONFUSING OUT THERE
Most government organisations like NHS or BBC say that 400 grams of fruit a day is enough, they also say at least 5 portions. They say that 1 portion should weigh 80 grams.
WHO, World Health Authority, also says a portion of fruit or vegetables is 80 grams and we should have at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
It’s a shame that they are sticking with this idea as they sometimes give really positive information like the use of the miswak tooth brush stick as ideal, again another tradition of Prophet Muhammad salah lahu alaihi wa salem.
The portion sizes are too small.
But another site called Very Well Fit says that a large banana 8 inches long, that weighs 170 grams, I weighed it, says that banana equals one portion.

I THINK THIS IS A GOOD SITE FOR MEASURING PORTIONS SIZE AND IT’S EASY.

In 2014 the BBC website said 400 grams day which that say is 5 times 80 gram portions. Even though they say research says 7 portions in their article, they are sticking with 5 portions.
Bear with me and you will see the ignorance of this.
1 medium size orange weighs 180 grams
1 small nectarine weighs 100 grams
Are you starting to get the picture?
Let me give you a bit more numbers-
1 medium size banana weight 150grams
1 large banana 8 inches long weighs 170 grams

So according to that logic you would get 2 bananas and 1 small nectarine and that’s enough fruit and vegetables for the whole day.
In 2014, According to the BBC News web site “people should eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. The advice is based on World Health Organization guidelines, which are 25 years old.”

IN 2017 the BBC are still promoting 5 a day while stating that research shows that 10 portions is better.
