Holy Quran, chapter 2, surat al baqara, ayat/ verse 26
Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example – that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it. And those who have believed know that it is the truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, “What did Allah intend by this as an example?” He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby. And He misleads not except the defiantly disobedient,”.
This ayat has for some time baffled me and then I saw one explanation by the Sunnah the better brother but quickly forgot it, the following is an amazing breakdown of the scientific attributes of Allah’s design of the mosquito, Yusef Chambers in technical scientific design terms but still no explanation, no tafsir-
“The Mosquito, an ordinary little creature!!! ALLAH gives us its example in the Quran, to show us how this little creature has an extremely complicated nature
1- It is a female
2- It has one hundred eyes in it’s head
3- It has 48 teeth in it’s mouth
4- Inside it’s little body there are three complete Hearts!!
5- It has six knives in it’s nose and each knife has it’s special use
6- It has three wings on each side
7- In the body of this insect is a digital X-RAY machine, which it uses to distinguish the human skin in the dark, in violet colour
8- It’s body also contains a small vaccine working as a local anesthetic to help it to insert its thorns in the human skin without any feel or pain caused by the suction of the blood
9- It has an instrument for blood testing, because it doesn’t like all blood types!!
10- It has a special mechanism to speed up the blood flow so it can draw it faster!
AND the most strange discovery by Science is that there is another very small Microscopic Insect living on top of this Mosquito!!
AND that is what ALLAH means in the verse 26 of Surah Al-Baqarah:
“Surely Allah is not ashamed to set forth a parable even of a mosquito or any thing above that;” (Quran 2:26) “
This detailed breakdown of the mosquitos attributes doesn’t explain the parable.
However as a grandma, who would love to explain this to my grandson, I will put forward one explanation, one tafsir that will connect the ayat and the breakdown of the parable
Regardless of the observation, the reality, the Truth is this insect is a magnificent in design , something so small , yet so complex, 3 hearts in one body….now that’s what we can call supreme engineering masha’allah, it proves the supremacy of Allah, no human has come close to that kind of design superiority in such a small creation.
Something we see as very small and in our ignorant we do not comprehend the complexity of Allah’s design in this creature, it bites some and not others because it is able to distinguished the blood type.it imparts disease that kills some and not other, something so small is capable to carrying death.
We should never under estimate Allah’s power, Allah uses this small female creature, complex and magnificent in design to punish some and leave others . as humans we have one heart inside out body, a pregnant woman has two hearts inside her body, but this minute creature has three hearts and so many other amazing features.
It is the complexity of design within such a small creature that you have to be in awe of Allah infinite ability and never underestimate things that seem insignificant. This small creature has the ability to distinguish variations in blood, if something as small as a mosquito can do this, do we think that there are larger creatures who are not able to do this?
As nutritionist I will tell you that diet plays a big part in the taste of your blood, what we consume through our mouth informs that taste and type of our blood, what we put on pour skins is absorbs into the blood.
A word to the wise, mosquitos hate vitamin B6 in the blood, it is wise to eat tahini, sesame seed paste, chickpeas, pistachios, sunflower seeds.
