There are many things that make our immune systems weak ; stress, pregnancy and menstruation, illness, working or being with children who pick up allsorts of viruses but they have stronger immune systems than us, long distance travelling in buses are airplanes, being in hospital, etc.
Every so often our immune system needs a boost, these herbs should not be taken continuously but are there as trouble shooters.
From an Islamic perspective, in the Medicine of the Prophet,(salah la alaihi wa salem), in the sunan of Ibn Maja,(marfu), from the hadith of Abu Harayra, radialahu anhu, it says,
” Anyone who takes an electuary on three mornings of every month, he will not be touched by major affliction.” Ibn Maja. tibb,7.the isnad includes al -Zubayr Ibn Sa’id who is matruk.
Definition of an Electuary
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia,
“An electuary is a medicinal paste composed of powders, herbal remedies or other medical ingredients, incorporated with sweeteners to hide the taste, like syrup, honey, jam, etc., for the purposes of oral consumption.”
“the prophet, salah ala alaihi wa salem, used to drink honey with water, on an empty stomach; herein lies a most notable secret for the preservation of health that is only to be grasped by the astute and discerning..this we shall mention, if God wills, under his guidance for the Preservation of Health.” Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah, Medicine of the Prophet.
BOOSTING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
So honey in water with a herb is an electuary. I have been told that Echinacea is good for people who don’t get hay fever, eczema or asthma and golden seal is for those of us who do. Available from Neal’s Yard, Holland and Barrat or Boots or a local health shop . They are bitter herbs but that spoon of honey in the water helps the medicine go down and picks you up again inshallah.
Disclaimer…please check with your doctor before taken any herbs if you are pregnant, suffer from diabetes or nay other serious illnesses.
