By Karimah Bint Dawoud, muslim chaplain and well being writer,
As the dark days of winter trundled along the muddy path towards us, the temptation is to curl up into a ball by the fire with a big bowl of creamy mash potatoes covered in honey and chocolate fudge sauce…or something like that!
Resist my lovelies, resist!
After last winters indulgence into mince pies and more mince pies, even though I am now a Muslim, these festive morsels are still part of my food culture.I had ,by January ,put on half a stone and was then 13 1/2 stone.
” I have to lose this weight, if i dont lose at least half a stone, then next year i’ll be 14 stone and so on and on and then I’ll be really fat and won’t be able to walk!”
The scenario screamed through my head. Time to put the breaks on.
Now even as the years has not come to an end, I have lost 1 1/2 stone , all praise is to Allah the Creator of the Heaven and the Earth.
What’s my secret to loosing weight??
Prayer first and everything else just falls into place.
I would just like to add this haddith as a small antidote to greed in these first 10 days of Dhul Hijjaj, the first 10 days of the month of the Hajj Pilgrimage
Narrated By Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari : The Prophet said, “Give food to the hungry, pay a visit to the sick and release (set free) the one in captivity (by paying his ransom).”
