The stomach is the size of the fist and everyone fist is relative to the size of their own bone structure. When we eat the stomach stretches, it can stretch to 33 fl oz. if people continue to over eat then the stomach thinks this stretched size if the normal size.
Researchers at Columbia University found that when people ate larger meals, their stomach grew larger and it took progressively more food to satisfy their hunger signals.
When we discipline and educate ourselves to eat smaller portions our stomach will decrease to its more natural form and it will take less food to satisfy out hunger.
in Islam this knowledge of the stomach size was spoken about often by the Prophet Muhammad, salah la alaihi wa salem, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, whose Sunnah we say we follow.
On the authority of Al-Miqdaam ibn Maadiy-Karib who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah saying: “No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Adam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath.”
Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasaa’I, Ibn Majah – Hadith sahih.
