ORANGE JUICE…D-D-D-DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE.

Just watching some BBC TV 2 “Rip Off Britain” food programme, according to some UK university who tested concentrated orange juice(which is a commodity on the stock exchange , it can be stored unlike fresh) AND freshly squeezed orange juice, to see vitamin C and anti-oxidant content.Their tests showed little difference.We need to remember that many science facilitates of some universities are funded by pharmaceutical and processed food industries, it is common knowledge int eh field of nutrition, quoted by Dr Colin T Campbell, Professor Emirus at Cornel university in USA, that too many government nutritionist are on the pay roll of these companies.

There is no way that orange juice that is concentrated, the process involves boiling the orange juice for a long period of time to evaporate the water, there is no way that this orange juice has  a similar genuine vitamin C content as fresh because vitamin C is  HEAT SENSITIVE VITAMIN.

Heat and storage methods can degrade the amount of vitamin C in the juice. Pasteurization, for example, uses high heat to kill microbes, but a great deal of vitamin C can be lost through this process. Vitamin C is also lost over time, so the fresher the orange, the more vitamin C it tends to have.

 

Commercial producers of concentrated orange juice add artificial vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid to bump up with nutritional data.

 

Vitamin C is also called ascorbic acid, and food manufacturers have found an easy way of adding ascorbic acid to foods such as juices to up the quota of vitamin C listed on the ingredient label.

It is better to eat a whole orange instead of orange juice, since whole foods have higher nutritional content than processed. For example, in addition to 98 mg of vitamin C, one large orange supplies 4.4 g fiber, 74 mg of calcium and 131 mcg of beta-carotene — nutrients that are all lost in the juicing process.

Vitamin loss can be induced by a number of factors. Obviously, losses of vitamins depend on cooking time, temperature, and cooking method. Some vitamins are quite heat-stable, whereas others are heat-labile. From textbooks in nutrition, such as Kreutleret al. WORST FAKE FOODS -MSG THE SILENT KILLER

MSG stands for  mono sodium glucamate.

This is a white powder, its a  processed flavor enhancer that can be found in particularly Oriental food, restaurant food, any food to make it more “moorish” meaning you want to eat more of it because the MSG can be additive.

It’s in most processed and restaurant foods .its in salad dressing, crisps, crackers, hot dog sausages, processed meats, dips, frozen meals, soups and more.

In 1959, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration labeled MSG as “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS),10 years later a condition known as “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome” entered the medical literature, describing the numerous side effects, from numbness to heart palpitations, that people experienced after eating MSG.

It has been linked to various health issues, such as: brain damage, liver inflammation, learning disabilities, obesity, headaches, nausea, asthma, change in heart rate and various other diseases.

The health problems of  MSG is another good reason to stop eating out and learn to cook, because that way you know whats going in your food. To any restaurateur, if your food is good enough people will come back because of the food not because of the addictive poisons drugs you are adding in that are not necessary 🙂

Let’s leave behind the Lego Land mentality and take things to a more holistic level in all things, not just food, but it’s food my specialty, so its food I’ll speak with. I notice my metaphors normally are with food or cuisine cooking.
Anyways as part of my Sha’aban, the month before Ramadhan preparation and getting things sorted mentality, physically and spiritually, I am having a bit of a paradigm shift and would encourage you to do the same.
We have been indoctrinated to only accept fruit and vegetables that are a standard size, standard colour and standard smell .Anything else is less than or abnormal, we have been brain washed to become food fascist. Its really sad this supermarket form of food discrimination, I know of a farmer who has machine that weighs and measure the size of cucumbers and anything that doesn’t measure up is rejected and ends up in the market . Now with my rational head on I know that part of it is to do with storage and odd sizes would make things more difficult to store, however when it gets to the point where scientist are in labs messing round with genetics of my tomatoes, to make sure they all come out the same size, this is the point where things need to stop! So I shop in the market, in the everyday, on the corner market and the farmers market and occasionally for cat litter in the supermarket, for those things that I can’t get for cash on the street.
I would just like to show you what I bought today in West London, UK, for those complainers that say “eating healthy is expensive”.

FOODIE FUSS…There’s a lot of fuss being made right now over Korean food, touting it as  “the perfect food diet health plate.”

 The best thing about Korean food, if the truth be told, is kimchi, a fermented vegetable pickle, full of natural acidophilus good bacteria for stomach. The Bi Bim Bap Recipe is a Korean melange in a bowl, where you get to choose from a healthy starch like rice, some protein, vegetables and a fermented pickle, however looking at some people’s version of Bi Bim Bap , the combo is far from healthy.
