olive oil text

The context in which this blessed oil has been mentioned in the Quran is deep and metaphorical, pertaining to radiance and illumination of the spiritual as well as the physical. this amazing oil is mentioned only once in the Quran but this “once” is so penetrating and engaging  that it  takes a soul that is willing to engage with the Quran, these verse and make a spiritual shift.   Even though this blessed oil has only been mentioned once in the Quran olives are mentioned at least 6 or 7 times.

Surat An-Nūr (The Light) – سورة النور

Surat 24, ayat 35

 God is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His Light is as (if there were) a niche and within it a lamp, the lamp is in glass, the glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east (i.e. neither it gets sun-rays only in the morning) nor of the west (i.e. nor it gets sun-rays only in the afternoon, but it is exposed to the sun all day long), whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no fire touched it. Light upon Light! God guides to His Light whom He wills. And God sets forth parables for mankind, and God is All-Knower of everything”.

INSTAGTRAM – The Islamic Nutritionist

The Muslim Massage

as salaam alaikum single brothers and sistars, those of us who are not getting any TLC tender loving care, because we are practicing and single, we need to take care of ourselves.

As practising Muslims we often don’t get enough touching, stroking hugs etc which are important for well being.
Massaging ourselves after bathing is a good way to care care of ourselves and support the elimination of toxins.
I don’t bathe every day, I don’t work in field or hot and sweaty job, so all over body washing and washing the hair every day are not necessary, once is sunnah, more than that is personal preference.
I know that massaging after bathing with cream is essential for everyone but today i’m going to make an oil blend good for lymphatic drainage.

The Oils
Citrus essential oils, like orange, grapefruit, and lemon, are stimulating for lymph glands.* Peppermint, ginger, and rosemary are good for circulation and will help lymph nodes drain.* Dilute with a carrier oil and rub on lymph glands under neck, arms, groin, behind knees…well kind of all over really but paying particular attention to these points. I am using rosemary, ginger orange diluted in coconut oil.

Importance of Lymph Massage
Lymph flow is important to maintaining good health, as the lymphatic system is an integral part of the immune system, bathing the body’s tissues with lymph, a clear liquid, which collects bacteria, viruses, metabolic debris and other harmful substances. Lymph is then channeled to lymph nodes, where the foreign substances are destroyed or rendered non-functional by various white blood cells, or lymphocytes. The spent lymph and debris are then collected by the circulatory system and flushed out of the body via the urinary system.

Negative Effects of Bad Lymph Circulation
Lymphedema describes the abnormal accumulation of lymph fluid under the skin—in other words, swelling. Swelling of this sort indicates lymphatic system insufficiency or stagnation, and is usually caused by a blockage that prevents the free flow of lymph.…/

These are the Points

As  a naturopath and single , man free women who get very little in the way of hugs and stroke I need to love after myself more.It is not often enough that I treat myself to a massage, I’m terrible, I go maybe once every 9 months when I should be going every month.Anyway here we are at Lush Spa and I had a nice stimulating massage to get rid of all the knots on my back, alhmdulilah.

The therapist used Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar.

Wiccy Magic Muscles contains a warming blend of cinnamon and peppermint essential oils that are said to stimulate the circulation to warm and loosen up stiff, achy muscles. These essential oils are blended with Fair Trade organic cocoa butter and shea butter as well as organic jojoba oil and extra virgin coconut oil to sink into the skin. Use the smooth side all over the body, then turn it over and use the knobbly aduki beans on any particularly stubborn knots.

Melt warning: this product is made with ingredients that allow it to soften around body temperature. During hot spells, it may melt so store in fridge but dont eat it.

Ilove it at Lush,. all teh bottles and potions, knowign that it’s made from good stuff without hurting animals.

Massaged followed by a nice herbal tea and fresh strawberries, the professional therapist asked for my feed back on the session and set me on my merry way, alhmdulilah praise God for thisluxury and in this metropolis we need it!!!

Parsley….Anti-inflammation Smoothie

Anti-inflammatory smoothie

I have been in so much pain these winter months and we are still not out of the woods, my neighbor suggested that I have bath in the morning rather than at night, to relax my muscles and thus set me up for the rest of the day’s activities
Today is the 2nd time I’m trying this and this time, advice by my mother ,who is a qualified aromatherapist, I took my oil in the bath room ; camphor, eucalyptus, frankincense and black pepper, ginger and lavender.
Oils dropped into hot bath water and left for 30 minutes to let the bath water cool and warm the actual metal enamel of the bath and let the oils infuse the air.

I then thought I should get the plants of the window a bit of water
I pondered and reflected, parsley and chives, such tough plants maashallah, I don’t water them regularly, they’re out in the sometimes freezing weather and still they’re vibrant and green
Parsley, I ponder, maybe there is something in parsley that will toughen me up to this cold British weather because my body is telling me that something is wrong the pain I am in is not helps by flax seed oil, which I take regularly
Without thinking it got some fresh parsley out of the fridge and chopped with scissor into my already blended smoothie full of anti- inflammatory but missing on vital ingredient parley
Ant inflammatory winter smoothie
• 1 large ripe, banana
• 2 slices of fresh pineapple including kore
• 3 tsp powdered cinnamon
• 2 level spoon spiralina
• 4-5cme piece fresh ginger
• 4-5cm piece of fresh haldi turmeric curcumin
• 21 stems of fresh parsley
• Blender topped up with coconut water

The banana, pineapple and cinnamon give it a sweetness that balances the green taste and it’s actually quite nice

Inshallah I will do this every time I make a smoothie, especially after reading the health benefits fresh parsley contain, alhmdulilah praise the creator.
Parsley is rich in many vital vitamins, including Vitamin C, B 12, K and A. This means parsley keeps your immune system strong, tones your bones and heals the nervous system, too. It helps flush out excess fluid from the body, thus supporting kidney function.

Parsley is a pretty little Mediterranean herb that lends a sprinkling of color to your plate. But let’s not think of it as just a garnish—after all, parsley has been around for more than 2000 years, and boasts some time-tested benefits that you should know about.
• Parsley is rich in many vital vitamins, including Vitamin C, B 12, K and A. This means parsley keeps your immune system strong, tones your bones and heals the nervous system, too.
• It helps flush out excess fluid from the body, thus supporting kidney function. However, the herb contains oxalates, which can cause problems for those with existing kidney and gall bladder problems.
• Regular use of parsley can help control your blood pressure. The folic acid in this herb is like a tonic for your heart.
• Parsley essential oil, when massaged into the scalp, may reduce hair loss.
• Use parsley daily, and you’ll feel relief from joint pain. That’s because the herb has anti-inflammatory properties.
• Parsley tea relaxes stiff muscles and encourages digestion.
• Studies indicate that parsley—especially its essential oil—may have a role in inhibiting cancerous tumors. In fact, scientists have billed it a ‘chemoprotective’ food.

Lush Lady Boy

by Karimah bint Dawoud, Muslim Chaplain and Well Being Writer.

As a massive fan of Lush natural cosmetics, I was over the moon to get a prize for the best frog jokes on the Lush Westfield page. After many weeks of procrastinating I finally manage to go and pick it up at Westfield.

My prize was made up of two lovely Lush soaps and two fragrances, Karma and Lady Boy.

lush lady boy

Lady Boy is crazy, the first funky banana top notes hit you in the face, when the boy stops screaming  and the fragrance calms, down you get  seaweed, violet, chamomile, labdanum, oak moss middle and  base notes.

A great fragrance for summer as you stroll along those Brazilian  beaches, well more like Jeddah in my case inshallah.

pickin up the prizes

The treatment I had was called The Spell…oooh spooky…not really it was more like counseling therapy with a great foot massage, reflexology thrown in. I had hot stones with aromatherapy oils on my temples and a head massage, all designed to de- tox me inside and out.

I threw my worries away for an hour at least and afterwards felt like I could face anything, including Friday lunchtime Kensington traffic  on the way home.

LUSH- the spa in kings road

We all need to treat ourselves pamper ourselves a bit more and what better way than a trip to Lush,

I love Roses, they are one of The Creator’s most beautiful creations; the delicacy of the petals, the subtle graduation of the colour the wisp like vein and  aaah the perfume.

Rose oil works on the mind body and soul.

Properties  Aromatherapists believe rose oil to be anti-depressant, anti-septic, anti-viral, astringent, bactericidal and a tonic to the liver, stomach and uterus. It is known as the ‘women’s oil’, helping with menstrual problems and benefiting the skin, particularly mature or aging skin.

Rose Oil for the Skin Rose essential oil is thought to be beneficial for helping treat broken capillaries and scars as it is believed to stimulate the circulation and promote the growth of new cells. It is used to help dry skin, eczema and considered safe to use on sensitive skin. It is also thought to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

For dry, mature skin, combine two drops of Rose Otto with four drops each of Neroli and Frankincense in 20ml jojoba oil and apply daily.

Rose Oil for Women’s Problems Rose oil is thought to ease uterine disorders, and to help with irregular or heavy menstruation. It eases frigidity, impotence and insomnia, lifts depression and headaches and its calming properties help with stress related complaints. Adding a few drops of oil to the bath, or massaging gently into the abdomen, one drop to 5ml carrier oil, will help to ease symptoms.

Rose Oil for the Spirit Says of rose oil: “This oil is widely used in aromatherapy and invokes positive thoughts, spiritualism and feelings of joy, happiness and hope.” To help ease feelings of grief and sadness, and to release past pain, a bath with two drops of Rose Otto and four drops of Frankincense is believed to help.
