ULCER SLIPPER ELM SMOOTHIE

Ulcers can be a pain and off putting for those of us who want to fast. From my own experience of having sensitive stomach this smoothie got me through Ramadhan and beyond. I have a very delicate stomach, not in a bourgeois  colonialist way, but in an I’m allergic to wheat kind of way, bit of a sickly kid kind of way and fasting always scares me.My doctor’s has even said that because of my weak stomach, that they have wanted to shove a camera down there for years,  that I don’t have to fast.

That’s not an option for me, I would feel left out, its not the same; fasting your eyes, ears, tongue, I enjoy going through the hardship, etc and feeling the sense of achievement by Allah’s grace at the end of the day…..its like spiritual mountain climbing.

I am almost qualified as a nutritionist but not quite so please ask your doctor about this if you’re in any doubt, however most of them won’t know about slippery elm, it’s an old red Indian remedies that can be bought in most good health shops like Neal’s yard, don’t buy the cheaper one from Holland and Barrat from Thompson, its diluted with flour and that something a sensitive stomach doesn’t need.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon slippery elm powder

2 bananas, washed, peeled

1 tea spoon turmeric/haldi

1 tea spoon cinnamon

300-500ml almond milk, homemade is best

 7 (optional) dates, stones taken out

METHOD

Place all ingredients in blender and blitz for 30 seconds

Slippery Elm Powder .This powdery herb is a little miracle for delicate stomachs, there has been a bug going round that I can’t ignore,  and for the body to heal it self sometime you need to take the stress off it but stopping animal products and also giving it a hand, slippery elm is a food and a healer, it is what is known as a mucilage which means it produce a sort of healthy slime that travels through the gut healing and  removing anything not very good.

Slippery Elm Bark is a herb derived from the Elm (Ulmus) family. Native to Canada and the US, it can be found growing in the Appalachian Mountains. The inner bark is collected from trees which are at least 10 years old, and is mainly powdered for therapeutic use.

Creme of Tomato Smoothie

Doing this Juice Journey I realized that one trigger time is dinner time,

so at KC Headquarters we endevour to have a smoothie that tastes like dinner would,

last night it was Salad Smoothie, tonight is Creme of Tomato Smoothie, so lets go!

Ingredients-

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 mug  almond milk/250 g/5 oz
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 black pepper
  • 10-15 regular supermarket size basil leaves or 5- 10 home grown large leaves
  • 1 tsp sumak powder
  • 10 -15 cherrie tomatoes
  • 1/2 lemon skin and all

CREME OF TOMATO SMOOTHIE 3

Method

  • wash every thing
  • take flesh out of avocado and place in blender
  • add cloves of garlic peeled /crushed
  • add tomatoes
  • add basil leaves
  • add almond or nut milk
  • add spices , black pepper, sumak
  • blend…its that easy and it tastes delicous

3 day juice fast -day 1

yeeeeeehhhhhhh alhamdulilah, praise God, we a have over 40 wonderful people doing this fast, may of you have inboxed me to let me know you are on board, just drinking my water and lemon juice before the first smoothie……its good to have a plan of what you will be making /drinking because sometimes you just don’t have time or energy to think  just a quickie blog, this is a really filling energizing,thick smoothie, no wonder those raw foodies are so lively 🙂

INGREDEINTS

  • 5 leafs kale
  • 1 banana
  • handful of berries fresh or frozen
  • 1 tsp tumeric
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1tbls diatomaceous earth
  • soak chia and linseeds

3day juice day 1 spice

METHOD

 Wash , peel, chop where necesary, place all in blender and blitiz…its that simple 🙂

SMOOTHIES- peach, gogi berry and apricot

This peach, apricot and gogi berry smoothie is a follow on from our modified Moroccan peach smoothie from Alia that had loads of white sugar and boiled carrots.

INGREDIENTS  AND METHOD

5 APRICOTS

10 ML GOGI BERRIES SOAK IN 300ML OF WATER OVERNIGHT OR A FEW DAYS IN FRIDGE

1 PEACH

CHOP PEACH INTO JUG BLENDER, ADD SOAKED APRIOCOTS AND GOGI BERRIES AND THERI WATER AND BLITZ, ENOUG FOR 3 X 235 GLASSES

Pumpkin Spicey Smoothie

This is really exciting, we haven’t had raw pumpkin in a smoothie before, last year from my book , Heavenly Bites, we made a lemongrass and pumpkin soup.My raw food guru, Amir Abdullah Al Bey suggested that we could have done it raw… we weren’t ready but a year later here we are and  ready to go. A few of Team Cuisina and doing this 3 day juice fast as well as 40 brave souls from Facebook.

This is what we are going to do with the squash/pumpkin

Ingredients

1 cup(234ml/40z) washed, peeled and grated pumpkin

1 cup (234ml/40z)washed, peeled and grated carrots

1 strand of frozen/fresh lemon grass

1 cup of almonds soaked over night 12 hours, rinsed, blended with 500ml of water and strained, the milk used

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp cumin

1 clove garlic

1/2 handful coriander

1/2 handful parsley

3 cm fresh ginger chopped

black pepper

 METHOD

  • Soak almond overnight 12 hours at least, rinse and blend with water, strain and use the nut milk.place in blender.
  • wash peel and grate pumpkin/squash , add to blender.
  • add cumin, tumeric,pepper, lemongrass,ginger,garlic.
  • BLEND BLITZZZZZ
  • Add fresh chopped herbs;  parsley corriander
