I have seen Raw Pumpkin Pie on sites like Sistah In The Raw and wondered what this little gem would taste like, finally my stomach ulcer could take meat and cooked food no longer , so we set off to get the ingredients for this cold pudding.
The result was wonderful for our first go, bit of a cheesecake vibe, light and tropical, insha’allah this will be the first of many.
My own recipe is a work in progress but all I can say right now is there are some good recipes out there, please check out the following links.
“Pay attention to whom or what you give your time to!”
Last night I treated myself to watch “In Time” with Justin Timberlake and that pretty girl with the big eyes from Mama Mia.
“In Time” is an amazing film which made me think of this Islamic religious saying,
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ”Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth before you become old; your health, before you fall sick; your wealth, before you become poor; your free time before you become preoccupied, and your life, before your death.” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas in the Mustadrak of Hakim & Musnad Imam Ahmad. Sahih).
As Muslims we believe that when we are in the womb of our mother three things are written on our soul, whether we will die as a Muslim or non-Muslim, what our bounty will be in this life, not the chocolate one but our bounty in terms of material gain .We also believe the time and day we die will be written on our soul.
So contrary to this film you cannot buy time or steal time to extend your life , the big boys need to understand this and the little boys need to be aware of this. What is within our personal control is the quality of this time and the effectiveness of how we use the time we have.
Allah, God is the only one who can give us time and take away time, for example when we were feeding the homeless, people though that Eid would be the next day and even sister told us that shatan has whispered in their ear not to come and help us because there wouldn’t be enough time to get ready for Eid, but come they did , because the moon had not been sighted and who is shatan to say when Eid will be.
“Allah said, ‘The son of Adam wrongs me for he curses Ad-Dahr (Time); though I am Ad-Dahr (Time). In My Hands are all things, and I cause the revolution of day and night’” (Al-Bukhari). The joy on our faces when after Asr prayer, mid afternoon, it was revealed that Eid was ntot eh next day as was commonly believed(not known) but would be the following day, praise Allah, we were rewarded in this life and the next, we were given a day.
We are conditioned to believe that Convenience is a way of saving time. Convenience is not always good if it uses more energy, its bad for your health, deprives life experience and miseducates.
For example I know some people their middle name is convenience, they buy convenience food because they think it saves time. In reality convenience food, you get what you pay for and in most cases they are over prices because the production have to make a profit. in the long run will provide you with ill health and the quality of your life will deteriorate.
The best convenience food is raw food, fruits, nuts, salad veggies that you can eat with very little preparation that’s what I call real convenience food,
We are going to have to reflect on this a bit more and put some of our quality time saving methods in to action
May Allah help us all ameen
Abu Productive blog has some good ideas about time management and worth a read
Today is the 1st day of one of the sacred Islamic month; it’s the first day of the first month in the Islamic calendar, the month of Muharaam.
How many of us actually know that is the significance of this month?
Muharam means forbidden and what is forbidden in this month all unlawful acts especially the shedding of blood, however this is one of those month where these things are forbidden. it’s interesting and worth a ponder to ask oneself, to ask scholars and I said scholar, not just one scholar with a limited mentality, was this one of the months that the prophet Muhammad Salah la alaihi wa salem, not eat meat, it’s funny in this ummah when a person puts forward an Islamic idea like not eating meat all the time, that the ignorant majority start stating, implying that we are advocating that Muslims becomes vegetarian.
But what is the true tafsir of not shedding blood during this month?
Generosity in this month, you would be a fool in to be stingy in this month as there is a blessing from Allah on the substance of the coming year to one who is generous to his family during this month. I am not sure of Quran and Sunnah of this as the reference of from Monthly profile of THE ISLAMIC CALENDAR BYJAMEA PUBLICTIONS, However with Karimah as my name sake; I know there is no down side of being generous.
Abu Qataaada(the sahaba radiahu anhu) has related that the prophet muhammd Salah la alaihi wa salem is reported to have said “it is my thought that one who fasts on the 10th of this month, his sins will be expatiate for the past year.
Some pretty amazing thing happened in this month
Adam alaihi wa salem, was born in this month and he entered paradise on the 10th of this month.
Ayuub, alaihi wa salem, was cured of his illness in this month
A way was made for Bani Israeal in this month
Suleiman, alaihi wa Salem, was crowned king in this month
The oceans and heavens were created reference Tanbihul-Gaafillen reference)
Hadhrat Hussein was martyred in this month
The prophet muhammd salah al alaihi wa salem went to defeat Bani Muhaarib and Bani Tha’lab in this month
And finally but most importantly the day of judgement, the final day will take place on the 10th muharam so you can see when we start to implement things like fasting on this month 10th day, being generous the whole month and abstain from shedding blood then Inshallah we will be ready if it happens in our life time, if not then we will keep up the Islamic sunnah, the tradition and impart this information to the next generation.
I knew there were going to be days like these but I never thought it would be so bad, most of it brought on by emotions.I have a had a not so good couple of days and finally succumbed to eating meat yesterday-comforting eating, self abuse, etc.
I ate chips and chocolate , fizzy drinks and white bread and worst of all, chicken burgers……..still onwards and upwards alhmdulilah for the encouragement of my friends Leila Molaei and Irene Arango. I’m back on the wagon , with planning and juicing and me thinks a trip to Iceland to buy some Quorn burgers for when I feel like relapsing.
I don’t know if I can do another day without meat, its partly down to not planning and partly to do with craving, I find I have been eating junk these last few days, hmmmmm, I think I am going to give in today then get back on the wagon tomorrow 😦
As salam alaikum, this event is open to all professionals in the field of health and well being, it’s a registration only event, should you be interested to come, please register on the following link, thank you
By Karimah bint Dawoud, Muslim Chaplain & Ex-Fashion Model.
I live in Zurich on and off for years, modelling for fashion companies, choreographers , exhibitions and in store fashion shows, it was glamour but hectic and then a little bit tiresome having to refresh my make-up 5 times a day for fashion shows, now I clean my face 5 times a day for prayers Alhamdulillah, praise The Creator.
However whilst living in Zürich and commuting to Paris and Munich, I learnt a few things. Swiss culture was native white Swiss middle class glamorous life, native white and Italian Swiss hippie environmentalists and the migrant black population from exotic places like Santa Domingo, Ghana and Brazil Swiss men loved black women, I don’t know if things have changed but I doubt it.
The Swiss are health wise and environmentally more advanced than the UK, we were drinking herbal teas there many many moons ago and you could buy boxed and packaged herbal teas, labelled for various health requirements from youth local chemist in and out of town, its part of their culture-herbs.
Of course the Swiss eat loads of cheese, cream, chocolate all from milk from Swiss cows that graze on the green green swizz mountains.
This recipe is something meat free and tasty I learnt while living there.
Potato and Cauliflower Cheese
1-2 large potatoes
1 regular tub of cream or crème fraiche
150 g vegetarian cheddar or Gloucester cheese grated.
1-3 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon of paprika
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tea spoon salt
Washed potatoes and cauliflower and chop into large chunks 5cm square, like big gold balls.
Steam/ boil for 20 minute. Then check they are tender when pierced with fork of knife. we like to steam it holds in more the vitamin and minerals of the veggies
Put oven on and when vegies are cooked take let off and let them cool down
Mix together the broken eggs, the cream, 100g of the grated cheese, crushed garlic (optional) and salt and spices.
Place veggies in baking tray or casserole dish so they fit snuggly
Pour cream mixture over the veggies, and then sprinkle the remaining grated cheese over the whole dish.
Cover with tin foil if the potatoes were a bit all dente/hard
and place in oven gas mark 5 for 20 minutes
We would normally eat with steamed spinach but after what I am learning about food combining maybe a green salad would be a good starter then leave for 30 minutes or more if possible and have the potatoes and cauliflower cheese on its own for better digestion.
This is really tasty veggie comfort food and still 7 days with no meat, praise God
