“quick time, quick time, give me pill or powder”, they burn the USA flag but don’t want habba sawda!”
This is line from an old poem of mine called Holy of Holies…it reflects the pathetic state of too many Muslims these days. Habba sawda is the Arabic word for “black seed”, an amazing natural medicine, spoken of much in islamic medicine.
Long ago in Rasta we would have said, they think they are so booga, so hard core but they are hardcore in the wrong things. What’s the point of burning the USA flag and you and your children  are not islamique in your lifestyle.
The urbanization of Muslims over the years , all over the world has led to the disparity between the cultures of urbanite and country bumpkins, even though they are from the same tribe .
There is much to be said of positivity in urban lifestyle; the abundance of technology to research, study and share information, the abundance of products form all of the world, the opportunity to met people from different cultures without having to travel thousands of miles.
However there is much to be said for the country life too, the more immediate connection with Allah’s creation , the stronger reliance on natural remedies and the fresher air and water.
Islam is a religion of the middle way, it’s our duty to fuse, to synthesis the best of everything that is halal regardless of where it’s from, what tribe, what country what culture.
It’s sad, we are an ignorant people and due to our own ignorance that breeds arrogance, we think there is no need to step outside our comfort zone to experience the good that other tribe, nations and faiths have to offer which is also good.
Back in our own back yard, in the corner where we throw  the  junk in favour of flat screen TV’s , BOSH sound systems and designer clothes, there is a book of Islamic medicine, sadly tarnished by the so called sheikhs who have used the mask of Islamic medicine as a guise for their mysticism and magic.
Some of us had this book written on our hearts, knowing deep in our nature, our fitra that Allah would never leave us without cures in His Creation.
Some of us despise the magicians because they give hakims a bad name,  it’s like Lord of the Rings. Islamic medicine involves knowledge of herbalism , herbs can be used for good or they can be used for bad, this is the test.
Lets us focus on the role of  the hakim who is aware of the responsibility and accountability to Allah for every diagnosis and prescription he or she makes or writes. This prescription would firstly be  to change the diet.
Islamic medicine is the second stage after prayer to The Creator, in the adab/ manners of medicine, if this fails then the patient can resort to pills or powder.
Most of us are too ignorance , arrogant and lazy, engrossed and stuck in our cultural diet whether is pizza or rotis to change. We want to be able to keep on eating pizza or roti ,chips, fried foods, fizzy drink, no to little fruits and vegetable and they want some magic pill or powder to make them well again. Prophet Muhammad, salah la laihi wa salem never ate white flour and he never eat whole meal wheat for more than three days. An increasing number of people are allergic to wheat which is not a grain that man has always been eating.

In some muslim countries young women are forced fed to be fat, we need to realise there is a difference between fat and voluptous, its natural for most girls before pregnancy to be slimmer than after.
Narrated Abu Hazim: I asked Sahl bin Sad, “Did Allah’s Apostle ever eat white flour?” Sahl said, “Allah’s Apostle never saw white flour since Allah sent him as an Apostle till He took him unto Him.” I asked, “Did the people have (use) sieves during the lifetime of Allah’s Apostle?” Sahl said, “Allah’s Apostle never saw (used) a sieve since Allah sent him as an Apostle until He took him unto Him,” I said, “How could you eat barley unsifted?” he said, “We used to grind it and then blow off its husk, and after the husk flew away, we used to prepare the dough (bake) and eat it.” Sahih Bukhari and Tirmidhi

(457) Narrated ‘Aisha: The family of Muhammad had not eaten wheat bread to their satisfaction for three consecutive days since his arrival at Medina till he died. (Bukhari, Book #65, Hadith #327)

(460) Narrated ‘Aisha: The Prophet did not do that (i.e., forbade the storage of the meat of sacrifices for three days) except (he did so) so that the rich would feed the poor. But later we used to keep even trotters to cook, fifteen days later. The family of Muhammad did not eat wheat bread with meat or soup to their satisfaction for three successive days. (Bukhari,Book #65, Hadith #349)

Some patients are so far gone in their illness that they think its futile, pointless to change. Its never to late to change.
Both attitudes are wrong and not Islamic.
Our bodies have rights over us and we will be asked on the  day of judgment how we spent our good health when we had it?
Islamic medicine is not the quick fix like pills or powders, is a slow process that gives us time to reflect on how we , through our own ignorance and bad actions, got our health into this state.
It could be the fault of parents who brought us up with a bad diet. I know people who have many villas abroad, Muslims, and they still feed their children on cheap white flour; hobbs, pancake, rotis, cous cous, pasta and no vegetable and fruits for dinner, its disgusting.
As you can guess this is one of my passions.
Islamic medicine has no side effects, food is medicine but it requires a sincere heart to really want to change and be well again.
Ask yourself “What kind of a Muslim are you? one who is stuck in the unhealthy cultural eating patterns of your ancestors ( but you probably think what you are eating is alright or healthy )or are you a Muslim who sincerely want to be well and in harmony with Allah creation and in effect more in harmony with Allah?” think about it deeply.

There is something nostalgic and distinctively British about egg mayonnaise and cucumber sandwiches. We could smoother them in curry powder or paprika and bring them into the elective 21st century but these are a tribute the Queen of England’s Diamond Jubilee and all the wonderful street parties bring in people of all races and faith together , this is how you do it.
This combination is enough for a snack for 2 person to have 2 crackers each
Each serving = 150 calories, see a little bit of what you fancy does you good and isn’t that fattening at all,alhmdulilah
1 egg (1 medium size egg approx 70 calories
10 ml mayonnaise, (10ml = 1 dessert spoon= 66 calories)
1 teaspoon crushed black or white pepper
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Spring onions or ordinary onions or chives (optional, we had some old spring onions that needed using up)
Serve with oat crackers 45 calories each.
Dandelion leaves or other salad leaves tomato.
Avocado slices optional but see blog for health benefits of avocado.

• boil water in kettle or small milk pan, place water in small saucepan and turn heat on medium.
• place eggs in boiling water with some sort of large spoon , you don’t want them cracking on the bottom of saucepan
• boil for 7-10 minutes
• turn off heat
• pour hot water away carefully and let tap run on eggs for a few minutes, leave at least 5 minutes, it helps the inside egg contract, as its cools and helps the shells come off easily.
• take off shells
• slice egg into small bowl
• add mayonnaises , salt and pepper.
• add additional seasoning; onions, chives, curry powder .
• serve on crackers, this mixture is enough topping for 4 medium size crackers
• add some fresh salad and sunshine

“And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.”
An-Nahl (The Bees) Chapter 16 Verse 11.
“He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.”

Fruits are like packages of goodness you can carry around with you, 90% water and the rest is essential vitamins minerals and fibre. There is no excuse for obesity except for the rare few people with thyroid or mediation that causes weight gain and this is a small percentage of people.
Slow metabolism is a myth of fat people who either start eating late in the day, which automatically slows the metabolism down because the body thinks it’s starving or of people who are not aware of how much they are really eating.
Fruit is cheap right now, it’s in abundance, its a great re-educate your tongue, time to change your taste buds. It’s a great time to develop some new eating habits and throw away some old.

A big fruit salad first thing in the morning is something the whole family can enjoy and share, before leaving for work, school or college. For growing children give them something more  for breakfast like whole meal toast and egg/beans/dhaal, or cereal after fruit salad.

This also applies for growing teenager or people doing manual work or physical training.Otherwise put something like a whole meal peanut butter and salad sandwich in a bag for them.

People ask me “why do you put avocado in fruit salad?”
First and foremost fruits are often mentioned by Allah in the Quran, not all are individually named but Allah The Creator says “all the fruits”.
Many years ago my grandfather used to make trips to our homeland south African and bring us back avocado in his suit case. This was way before you could buy them in the UK. You have never seen such excitement as three little children crowding round this old man to get a spoon full of avocado creamed together within the shell with sugar. Deep in the English countryside the exotic souls of these children wanted to taste a fruit from their roots.
Avocado is amazing when you are living healthy lifestyle, cutting out those useless fatty foods like crisp ,chips , samosas and pakoras. Our body needs fats but good fats. If you don’t have fats when you are changing your foods and cutting down out cutting out junk foods your joints can become brittle and your skin looks dry.
• avocado is packed with an unusual but useful fat called phystosterols, this is useful to beat inflammation, its benefits documented with problems to do with arthritis; oesteoarthris and rheumatic arthritis. These fats also make avocado great of the skin and its anti aging properties.
• avocado is packed with carotenoids, usually we think of orange vegetables like carrots and pumpkin but within the dark green flesh is the avocados highest concentration of carotenoid. This is good for protection against free radicals, free radicals in things like fried food can be carcinogenic, meaning they encourage cancers.

• avocado is good for the heart and cardio vascular health.

• avocados, high in vitamin B6 are good for your nerves.
• avocado is great for regulating blood sugar because of its low carbohydrate content and high fibre content.

In this sunny weather sometimes you don’t feel like herbal tea and honey first thing in the morning, so today we have mixed them .Drink loads of room temperature water first, at least a litre slowly,in stages, if you can, then fruit salad smothered in honey….. well a dessert spoon actually; too much honey is bad for your stomach.
In the following article I have only included the article by Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Qahtani and Dr. Stephen Mac, the information on fruit for this post and inshallah will follow in another post about drinking cold water after meals. the article is written in Arabic and English mashallah.
It’s never too late for change you have to believe that you are worth it !

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It’s not as easy as you think. It’s important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

ما هي الطريقة الصحيحة لتناول الفاكهة؟

It means not eating fruits after your meals! *

Fruits should be eaten on an empty stomach.

أكل الفاكهة لا يعني تناولها بعد الطعام !

* بل ينبغي تناولها على معدة فارغة.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

إذا كنت تأكل الفاكهة بتلك الطريقة فذلك سيؤدي بدور رئيسي وفعال لإزالة سمية جهازك الهضمي، وفي نفس الوقت سوف يمد الجسم بقدر كبير من الطاقة اللازمة لإنقاص الوزن وغيرها من أنشطة الحياة المتعددة.

Fruit is the most important food.

الفاكهة هي أهم غذاء

Let’s say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so..

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining — every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc — actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

لنفترض انك تناولت شريحتين من الخبز وبعد ذلك أكلت شريحة فاكهة. شريحة الفاكهة على استعداد للذهاب مباشرة من المعدة إلى الأمعاء، ولكنها منعت من القيام بذلك.

وفي هذه الأثناء الوجبة بكاملها( شريحتي الخبز) ستتعفن وتتخمر وتتحول إلى حامض. في اللحظة التي تلامس بها الثمرة الطعام في المعدة والعصارة الهضمية فان كتله الطعام تبدأ بالفساد ….

لذا رجاءا تناول الفاكهة على معدة فارغة أو قبل وجبات الطعام!

لابد انك سمعت الناس يتذمرون قائلين ” في كل مرة كنت أتناول بها البطيخ أتجشأ” ،أو “عندما أكل فاكهه محدده فان معدتي تنتفخ” ، ” بمجرد تناولي الموز أشعر بحاجه ملحه للذهاب إلى المرحاض” ،… الخ في الواقع كل هذه المشاكل لن تحدث إذا أكلت الفاكهة على معدة فارغة. ثمرة الفاكهة ستختلط مع غيرها من المواد الغذائية المتعفنة وتنتج الغاز، وبالتالي سوف تشعر بالانتفاخ !

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

الشيب ، الصلع ، الغضب ، والدوائر السوداء تحت العين كل ذلك لن يحدث إذا كنت تتناول الفاكهة ومعدتك فارغة .

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

ووفقا لما ذكره الدكتور {هربرت شيلتون} الذي اجري مجموعه من البحوث حول هذه المسألة :-” لا يوجد ما يسمى بفواكهه حمضيه مثل البرتقال والليمون ، وذلك لأن جميع الفواكه تصبح قلوية داخل أجسامنا .إن كنت تتحكم بالطريقة الصحيحة لتناول الفواكه ، فأنك ستملك كل من سر الجمال ، طول العمر ،الصحة والطاقة والسعادة والحصول على الوزن الطبيعي.

When you need to drink fruit juice – drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t even drink juice that has been heated up. Don’t eat cooked fruits because you don’t get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

عندما ترغب بشرب عصير الفاكهة فأشرب عصير الفاكهة الطازجة فقط وليس المعلب،ولا تشرب العصير الذي تم تسخينه.

لا تأكل الفواكه المطبوخة لأنك لن تحصل على المواد المغذية المفيدة على الإطلاق. كل ما ستحصل عليه هو الطعم . فالطبخ يدمر الفيتامينات.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it.

والأفضل تناول الفاكهة بكاملها بدلا من شرب العصير. ولكن إن كان لا بد أن تشرب العصير فاشربه عن طريق الفم و ببطء، وهكذا ستسمح باختلاط العصير مع اللعاب قبل بلعه.

You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

عمل حميه الفاكهة وذلك- بالصيام لمده 3 أيام خلالها لا تتناول أي طعام غير الفواكه وبذلك تطهر وتنظف الجسم.- بمعنى “مجرد أكل الفاكهة وشرب عصير الفواكه طوال 3 أيام ” ، وسوف تفاجأ عندما يقول لك أصدقائك كم تبدو مشرقا ومبتهجا !

It was narrated by Imam Ahmed Ibn Hanbal and by Ibn Maja in his Sunan, , from the hadith of Abd Allah Bin Umar, that the Prophet Muhammad, salah la alahi was salem said,
” Two items of dead meat and two of blood have been made lawful for us: fish and locust and liver and spleen”.
There are many kinds of fish and the best fish are those that are pleasing to taste and that live in fresh water running over stones, feeding on plants and not scavengers.
One such fish is salmon. The marinade we are using is the Moroccan Marinade and the recipe is in my book, Heavenly Bites: The Best of Muslim Home Cooking. The book is out in America next month inshallah, however you can always order it from the publishers Kube Publishing and they will airmail it where ever you are inshallah.
Back to our fishy friend. Salmon contains essential fatty acid for the body called Omega 3 , which is good as protective against cancer, heart disease, mental development of children and other mental health illnesses. It good for the brain basically.
It also contains bio active protein called bioactive peptides that are good for joint cartilages, insulin effectiveness and control of inflammation in the digestive tract.

In nature God has provided for us a cure for all illnesses except death, a cure for all illnesses including allergies.
Hadith – Sahih Bukhari, Book 25, Number 5466, Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah.

Allah’s Messenger said: There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.

Allergies is a big topic, people are allergic to nuts, wheat, dairy products and even dust. An allergic reaction doesn’t happened overnight, it doesn’t happen the first time you come into contact with something. There can be a reaction but it’s so subtle that most people do not recognize it and so wouldn’t know be classified as an allergic reaction. Its take time for the body’s immune system to develop this allergy. At first the body adapts to whatever it is given or presented with but over time it is not longer able to adapt and then starts presenting allergic symptoms.
These could be:-
• inflammation, redness, soreness of eyes, nose, lips, skin
• sneezing
• coughing
• swelling
• find it hard to breathe
• feeling sick or vomiting
We are going to deal with here pollen allergies because inshallah the days are going to get warmer , so let’s be prepared. Before you start rushed off to your poor over worked doctor, let’s not trouble them with petty things that can be treated at home –  Islamically. Approximately 10-20% people have sensitive immune system and can suffer with this allegory , known medically as allergic rhinitis or pollenosis. The body’s reaction to dust or pollen means that a chemical chained of reaction produces too much so chemical called histamine. This in turn inflames the mucous membranes, the eyes and the inside of the knows the roof of the mouth and in some case causes hives sever itching and rash on the skin. Doctors and pharmacists will prescribe anti-histamine drugs, however there is a natural alternative that is more Islamic.
SUPERFRUITS ALLERGY FIGHTER…….I am resisting taking tablets for hay fever so I thought I better practice what I preach and put these natural remedies into effect.

Pineapple contains A proteolytic enzyme called bromelain that helps in the digestion of proteins. For this reason can help to prevent blood clots.
This natural chemical bromelain holds the key to many of this tropical fruits healing properties.

Bromelain has been found to be a good anti inflammatory and for this reason is good for arthritis ,sinuses and throat problems like hay fever where they sinuses and throat become inflamed.
For maximum effectiveness eat or have the juice on an empty stomach.
It’s also a great anti oxidant that helps fight the signs of ageing – Alhamdulillah! no Botox for me, I prefer to do this the natural way with the cures that the Creator has provide for us.
Its helps in fighting deteriation of the eye sight .
It contains another wonderful enzyme called manganese which helps provide the body with energy and combats tiredness.
There is no doubt that the pineapple is a wonderful fruit and has many healing and beneficial properties and has kept me relatively drug free during this year’s hay fever season…alhamduliah..all praise is due to The Creator of the heavens and earth ameen.
They are high in vitamin C and have as much potassium as bananas but without the calories.
They are good for respiration and inflammation of the mucous membranes, so great for fighting allergies and asthma.
They are good for the eyes,. especially as you get older.
They are high in fibre so good for the gut and colon.
These 2 fruits are high in VITAMIN C. Vitamin C reduces the histamine in the body. In March 2011 “The Journal of Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine ” reported that only 2g of ascorbic acid /vitamin c cane decreased histamine levels by 40%. in April 1992, in “The Journal of The American College of Nutrition” it was reported that 2g of ascorbic acid reduce histamine levels by 38% and it remained this way for 4 hours.

So you see if you eat lots of fruits high in vitamin C it will help control your allergies, you may not have loads of time so you can supplements with vitamin c tablets, however fruits are best, particularly on an empty stomach.
